Description

These Smoky Honey Pretzels are a delicious twist on classic stuffed pretzels, featuring a gooey cheese pull that everyone will love. A perfect appetizer for parties or game day!

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)

1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

1/4 cup granulated sugar

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup baking soda

1/4 cup honey

8 ounces cheddar cheese, cut into sticks

1 large egg, beaten

1 tablespoon coarse sea salt

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

Instructions

1. 1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.

2. 2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, and mix until a dough forms.

3. 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.

4. 4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

5. 5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

6. 6. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.

7. 7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Flatten each piece and place a cheese stick in the center. Fold the dough over to seal.

8. 8. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds in the baking soda water, then remove and place on the baking sheet.

9. 9. Brush each pretzel with beaten egg, sprinkle with coarse salt and smoked paprika.

10. 10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add some cayenne pepper to the cheese filling.

These pretzels are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
