These savory honey stuffed bread twists are the perfect blend of sweet and savory, making them an ideal appetizer or snack for any gathering!
Ingredients
– 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
– 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
– 1/4 cup honey
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
– 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
– 1/4 cup chopped fresh herbs (optional)
– Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
2. Add honey, melted butter, and salt to the yeast mixture and stir.
3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
6. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
7. Cut the dough into strips (about 1 inch wide) and place a small amount of cheese and herbs on one end of each strip.
8. Fold the dough over the filling and twist it to seal. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
9. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
These twists can also be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
