These delicious Ooey-Gooey Butter Onion Rings are a perfect party appetizer, featuring a rich and gooey butter filling, crispy onion rings, and a sweet honey-butter glaze that takes them over the top!
Ingredients
2 large onions, sliced into rings
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and melted butter.
3. Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk mixture, and back into the flour mixture to coat well.
4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until hot.
5. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
6. Remove and drain on paper towels.
7. In a small bowl, mix honey, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
8. Drizzle the honey-butter glaze over the hot onion rings and serve immediately.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add spices to the flour mixture, such as paprika or garlic powder.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce for an added kick!
