Description

These Bourbon Onion Pretzels are soft, chewy, and stuffed with caramelized onions cooked in bourbon, served with a creamy garlic parmesan sauce. Perfect for parties or game day!

Ingredients

– 4 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

– 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

– 2 tbsp brown sugar

– 1 tbsp salt

– 1/4 cup baking soda

– 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

– 1 cup caramelized onions (cooked in bourbon)

– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

– 4 cloves garlic (minced)

– 1/2 cup heavy cream

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

1.

2. 1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and brown sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

3. 2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.

4. 3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

5. 4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

6. 5. In a skillet, cook the onions over medium heat until caramelized, then add bourbon and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

7. 6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.

8. 7. Flatten each piece and place a tablespoon of bourbon onions and a tablespoon of mozzarella cheese in the center, then fold the dough over and seal.

9. 8. Boil 4 cups of water and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.

10. 9. Brush each pretzel with the beaten egg and sprinkle with salt.

11. 10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

12. 11. For the garlic parmesan sauce, in a saucepan, heat heavy cream and add minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth.

13. 12. Serve the pretzels warm with garlic parmesan sauce!

Notes

– You can substitute bourbon with apple cider for a non-alcoholic version.

– Make sure to seal the pretzels well to keep the filling inside while baking.
